ABOUT DAANA KI
When my 13-year-old daughter Emma came home from a climate-change protest in September 2019, she asked what we could do-- right now, today, just the two of us-- to help reverse climate change. After many months of brainstorming and planning, we came up with Daana Ki Bracelets. And you can join us.
We make bracelets. Lovely, minimalist, eco-friendly, extremely affordable hemp bracelets that you’ll be proud to wear because of their appearance and because of what they say about your values. Each of our ten bracelets represents an ecosystem of our blue planet. We have Glacier, Coral Reef, Desert, Woodlands, Rainforest, Ocean, Volcano, Wildflowers, Beach and Canyon.
We were inspired by other companies who advocate for cleaning up the world’s precious oceans. Many of them do great work, but the ocean is only one ecosystem—certainly, it’s the single largest ecosystem, and among the most vital, but still it’s only one. Daana Ki bracelets embrace the entire globe, as they embrace your wrists and ankles.
A well known phrase of unknown origin but often associated with Native American wisdom is "We do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors; we borrow it from our Children." Wear your Daana Ki Bracelet with pride, knowing one day your great grandchildren will be proud of you, of the values you stood for, and of your efforts to preserve the world for them.
ABOUT OUR BRACELETS
The environmental impact of creating these bracelets is close to nothing. Our bracelets are made of 100% natural hemp fibers - no plastic, nylon or cotton. Hemp is a recyclable, reusable and 100% biodegradable fiber. It’s stronger and more durable than cotton, and it can grow easily without the use of pesticides. In comparison, cotton would require about 50% more water per season than hemp, and takes up four times the acreage that hemp requires.
Our leaf logo tags are made of 304 stainless steel. Stainless steel, a green product, is 100% recyclable. Even what is described as brand new stainless steel is often made up of anywhere from 50-70% recycled material. Our tags are polished to create their beautiful sheen, and as they are not coated with any toxic material, they do not produce any toxic run-off. In general, even if stainless steel is not recycled and it does find its way to a landfill or disposal site, it will have no harmful effect on the soil or groundwater.
Any kind of beads--stone, glass or plastic—would create a serious impact on the environment. We don't want to support any unnecessary extraction of natural stones from the environment, nor do we want to see glass and plastic beading end up in our bodies of water and ultimately in the bellies of wildlife. We rejected beads and other embellishments for these reasons.
